General
What is Cover Collective?
Cover Collective connects fitness venues with qualified freelance instructors looking for cover work - and lets instructors cover for each other too. Instead of WhatsApp groups, phone calls or spreadsheets, venues and instructors post cover opportunities and the right people get notified automatically.
Who is Cover Collective for?
Gyms, fitness studios, leisure centres, community centres, village halls, health clubs, charities and community fitness providers looking for cover - and freelance fitness instructors looking for cover work, or needing cover for their own classes.
Is Cover Collective free to use?
Signing up, browsing, and (for instructors) applying to cover work is always free. Small fees only apply when a venue or instructor posts a request - see the venue and instructor pages for exact pricing.
How do I pay the posting fees?
Payments are taken through PayPal, at the moment you post. You don't need a PayPal account yourself - PayPal also accepts a debit or credit card as a guest.
Who do I pay for the cover itself?
The posting fee is the only payment that goes through Cover Collective. The pay for the class itself - whether a venue paying an instructor, or one instructor paying another - is arranged and paid directly between the two of you, outside the platform. Cover Collective isn't involved in, and accepts no liability for, these payments.
Why isn't there any VAT on my payment?
Cover Collective isn't currently VAT-registered, so prices shown are the final amount - there's no VAT to add.
Is my data safe?
Yes - access to your data is restricted by account, certificate documents are only ever shared under a time-limited link (never public), and we never sell your data. Full details are in our privacy policy.
How do I delete my account?
From your account page - there's a danger zone at the bottom with a delete option. This permanently removes your profile, certifications, and booking history.
I've forgotten my password - what do I do?
Use the "Forgot password?" link on the login page to reset it yourself.
For venues
How much does posting a cover request cost?
£45 for a single one-off class opening, or £40/month for unlimited posting if cover comes up regularly.
How do I know an instructor is actually qualified?
Every instructor on the platform must already hold a current qualification and public liability insurance before they can apply to anything - that's checked automatically, not just at sign-up.
What happens if an instructor's certification expires before the class?
You and the instructor both get an automatic email alert as soon as it lapses, so you can decide whether to still go ahead or line up someone else - it doesn't cancel the booking for you.
Can I avoid using an instructor again, or keep a good one on hand?
Yes - star an instructor to make them easy to find again, or block one so they never see your requests.
Can I choose which instructor covers my class?
Yes - review the profile, qualifications and track record of anyone who applies before confirming who covers it.
Can I use Cover Collective for regular classes as well as emergency cover?
Yes - as well as one-off and emergency cover, you can post for ongoing or long-term cover if you know you'll need it for a while.
Can I set my own rates?
Yes - you set the pay rate for each cover opportunity you post.
For instructors
Do I have to pay to apply for cover work?
No - browsing and applying to a venue's cover request is always free. You're paid directly by the venue at the rate they posted.
What does it cost to post my own class needing cover?
£5 per date, dropping to £4 each if you've posted in the last 2 months or you post more than one date at once. Long-term cover (6+ months) is a flat £20. As one of our first 100 members, your first 2 single-session or single-day dates are free.
Is there a launch offer?
Yes - our first 100 members get 2 free covers. One date (a single session or a single day) is one cover, so your first two single-session or single-day dates are free to post. You'll see how many you have left when you post. Longer covers, like a week or ongoing, aren't included.
What certifications do I need to use the platform at all?
A current qualification and public liability insurance, at minimum - both need to be on file with a valid expiry date before you can apply to anything.
How do I build a reputation on the platform?
After each class you cover, the venue's members get a short anonymous survey - the ratings build into a track record that follows you across every venue.
Can I work for multiple venues?
Yes - many instructors cover for several venues. Cover Collective just makes it easier to find opportunities from all of them in one place.
Will venues be able to see my qualifications?
Yes - your profile shows your qualifications and certifications to anyone reviewing your application. You can also add an audition video.
How will I know when a new cover opportunity comes up?
You'll get an email whenever a cover opportunity matching what you teach is posted, so you don't have to keep checking back.
Am I employed by Cover Collective?
No - you're a freelance instructor. Cover Collective connects you with venues and other instructors; any work you accept is agreed directly between you and them.
